The school summer holidays are in full swing and it’s all about Beatrix Potter in the Lake District.
There are events galore throughout the summer holidays and of course the beautiful Hill Top, the home of Beatrix Potter, is where it is all happening.
Hill Top that encompasses the house, garden and shop is an excellent way to spend a day or even just an afternoon. See where Beatrix Potter was inspired and take a true step back in time and the experience never fails to impress the whole family, young and old. Simply book and visit the house and gardens as well as shop which is open daily from 10am 5pm daily. Entry to the House is by timed ticket (places limited). Access to shop and garden free during opening hours.
The detailed opening times of the whole site and special tours and events can be found here https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/hill-top. The special tours to enjoy this summer include Hill Top Showcase Tours, Garden Tours and Beatrix Potter Beyond Tours. Also look out for the Heritage Open Days in September.
In the area of Near and Far Sawrey surrounding Hill Top are some super little walks and plenty of places for cycling with children. Being tucked away to the west of Lake Windermere and the east of Coniston Water means it is a safe haven for families walking and cycling and offers a mixture of bridleways, quiet roads and forest tracks.
Accommodation for families can be found in the form of The Telegraph listed best Lakeland pub for families, Cuckoo Brow Inn at Far Sawrey. The inn offers family rooms, a great children’s menu (but equally too extremely tempting dishes for adults and bigger kids) and is just a 5 minute walk to Hill Top. Check availability by visiting http://www.cuckoobrow.co.uk/ or just peruse the menu with a look to just dining.
